The son of a South Korean lawmaker, Lee Cheol-gyu, has tested positive for marijuana following an attempt to purchase liquid marijuana. This development has triggered a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to the Seocho Police Station in Seoul, the 30-year-old Lee was subjected to a detailed drug test by the National Forensic Service, which confirmed the presence of marijuana in his system. The charges stem from an incident in October of last year, where Lee allegedly attempted to acquire liquid marijuana using a method known as ‘dropping,’ in which drugs are left in a public location for pickup. The attempt reportedly took place in an alleyway in Seocho-gu, Seoul, but was ultimately unsuccessful.
Adding another layer to the investigation, Lee’s wife was also present at the scene of the attempted drug purchase. CCTV footage confirmed her presence, leading to her being booked on charges related to violations of the Narcotics Control Act. Police have also requested drug tests for Lee’s wife and any other accomplices who may have been involved.
Authorities are currently investigating the full details of the crime, including the specifics of how Lee attempted to obtain the marijuana and the extent of his wife’s involvement. The case has drawn significant media attention due to Lee Cheol-gyu’s position as a member of the People Power Party.
