💔 Tragedy in Gwangmyeong: Missing Worker Found Dead After Tunnel Collapse

In a heartbreaking turn of events, the missing worker from the Gwangmyeong tunnel collapse has been found dead after a six-day search. 😢 The 50-year-old employee of Posco E&C, identified as Mr. A, was recovered from the site approximately 21 meters underground.

Key Details:

• Mr. A was found around the container area, which was not in good condition.
• The body was discovered with a significant amount of earth and debris.
• The recovery took place 125 hours after the initial collapse.
• Another worker, a 20-year-old excavator operator named Mr. B, was rescued earlier after being trapped for about 13 hours.

Gwangmyeong Fire Station’s Fire Prevention Chief Hong Geon-pyo expressed his condolences, saying, “We used excavators and cranes to remove debris and searched up to the container area of the education center, where the missing person was expected to be. We are sorry that we could not deliver news of rescue to the family who had been waiting anxiously.” 😥

The incident occurred at the Shinansan Line underground tunnel construction site in Iljik-dong, Gwangmyeong, where Posco E&C was working on a section of the project. The collapse involved both the underground tunnel and the road above it.

Gwangmyeong Mayor Park Seung-won also shared his condolences, stating, “I am very sorry to find the missing person in such a state. I offer my condolences to the bereaved family. Gwangmyeong City will do its best to handle the aftermath of the accident.” 🙏

With Mr. A’s discovery, the search operation has concluded, and focus will shift to managing the aftermath and investigating the cause of the collapse.
