On October 14, 2024, cracks were reported on a road near a redevelopment zone in Samseong-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul. Authorities have restricted movement in the area as they investigate the cause.
According to reports, the fire department received a notification around 3:37 PM KST (Korean Standard Time) about ground subsidence in the Samseong-dong redevelopment area.
Officials from the Gwanak-gu district office, police, and fire department confirmed that the cracks occurred in the road near an earth retaining construction site within the redevelopment zone.
The district office and construction company are currently investigating the cause of the cracks and will maintain traffic control until safety is assured. No casualties have been reported so far. ๐
This incident follows a previous report on the preceding day where a hole, 20 cm in diameter and 10 cm in depth, was found near Exit 1 of Gangdong Station in Gangdong-gu, Seoul. This location is approximately 3 km from the large sinkhole that occurred in Gangdong-gu on September 24.
