New Constitutional Court Justice Ma Eun-hyuk Begins Duty Amidst Ideological Bias Concerns 🤔

Ma Eun-hyuk, the newly appointed Justice of the Constitutional Court, has officially started his duties after a 104-day wait following his selection by the National Assembly. On his way to work at the Constitutional Court in Jongno-gu, Seoul, Justice Ma stated, “I will do my best to fulfill my duties as a Constitutional Court Justice.” 🏛️

When asked about the ideological bias pointed out by some in the political sphere, he responded, “I will address that issue in my inaugural address.” He also refrained from commenting on the recent nomination of two justices by Acting President Han Duck-soo, saying, “It’s my first day, so it’s difficult to comment.” 🤐

Regarding whether the nine-justice system should be completed by the next president, he mentioned, “I am aware that there are various opinions on that matter, and I will also give it careful consideration.” 🤔

The Constitutional Court held Justice Ma’s inauguration ceremony at 10 a.m. today. Acting President Han officially appointed Justice Ma the previous day. Justice Ma was selected as a candidate for justice recommended by the National Assembly on December 26 last year, along with Justices Cho Han-chang and Jung Gye-seon, but his appointment was put on hold due to the lack of bipartisan agreement, leading to a wait of over three months. ⏳
