SK Hynix Accelerates HBM Market Domination with HBM4 12-Layer Mass Production and Timely HBM4E Supply ๐Ÿš€

SK Hynix is ramping up its efforts to dominate the High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) market by promising mass production of HBM4 12-layer and timely supply of HBM4E. This move aims to solidify its leadership in the rapidly growing HBM sector.

Choi Jun-yong, Vice President of HBM Business Planning at SK Hynix, stated on July 7th: “We will not only proceed with the mass production of HBM4 12-layer this year but also ensure the timely supply of HBM4E, further strengthening our HBM leadership.” He emphasized that the company is committed to providing customized HBM solutions tailored to meet specific customer requirements, alongside developing new HBM technologies.

Choi, born in 1982, was appointed as the youngest executive in charge of HBM business planning at the end of last year. He is a key figure who has led the growth of the HBM business, having previously served as the head of Mobile DRAM Product Planning and being involved in HBM business planning.

The HBM Business Planning division, led by Choi, plays a crucial role in determining large-scale investments and strategic directions. It is responsible for establishing technology development roadmaps and devising strategies for collaboration with global customers, overseeing all aspects of the HBM business.

“We have been preparing for the HBM market with patience for a long time,” Choi said. “I believe that the opportunity to successfully develop HBM4 was created as a result of all members continuing their challenges silently with a ‘one-team spirit’. We will do our best to proactively prepare for the market and optimize business planning.”

Last month, SK Hynix supplied HBM4 12-layer samples to major customers worldwide for the first time, ahead of schedule. The company plans to start mass production in the second half of this year and accelerate the development of HBM4E.

SK Hynix expects HBM to account for more than 50% of its total DRAM sales this year. In the fourth quarter of last year, HBM sales accounted for more than 40%.

With this yearโ€™s HBM supply already sold out, the company anticipates that next yearโ€™s supply will also be sold out by the first half of this year due to increased demand for AI. Next yearโ€™s supply is expected to include not only the fifth-generation HBM, HBM3E 12-layer products, but also HBM4 12-layer products.

Key Points:

  • SK Hynix aims to lead the HBM market with HBM4 12-layer mass production and HBM4E supply.
  • Customized HBM solutions are being developed to meet specific customer needs.
  • HBM is expected to contribute significantly to SK Hynix’s DRAM sales.
  • Next yearโ€™s HBM supply is anticipated to sell out quickly due to high AI demand.
