Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon to Announce Decision on Early Presidential Election Run This Week

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon is expected to announce his official position regarding an early presidential election run this week. Following his attendance at the ’69th Newspaper Day Commemorative Celebration’ held at the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, Mayor Oh told reporters that he is ‘deeply contemplating, including whether to run, and listening to the opinions of many people.’ He added, ‘I will make a decision as soon as possible and let you know.’

Regarding his silence after the Constitutional Court’s decision on the impeachment trial of former President Yoon Suk-yeol on April 4th, he stated, ‘I am sorry and apologetic to the people. I have been refraining from speaking out of a sense of apology since the Constitutional Court’s decision.’ He further mentioned, ‘I intend to take the opportunity to reveal everything at once once my position is finalized.’

Kim Byung-min, the Deputy Mayor for Political Affairs of Seoul, who attended the celebration with Mayor Oh, added, ‘There will be an opportunity to reveal the story within this week.’

Earlier that day, Shin Seon-jong, the spokesperson for the Seoul Metropolitan Government, stated in a regular briefing held at Seoul City Hall that ‘We are reviewing participation in the primary election in accordance with the schedule of the party’s election commission.’

The People Power Party (국민의힘) launched its election management committee to oversee the presidential primary election on the same day, and nominated former interim chairman Hwang Woo-yeo as the chairman.
