Remembering Sewol: Nation Observes 11th Anniversary with Memorial Events 🎗️

The 11th anniversary of the Sewol ferry disaster is commemorated today, April 16th. Across South Korea, various memorial events are being held to honor the victims and remember the tragic event.

Key Memorial Events:

• Ansan, Gyeonggi Province: The 4·16 Foundation is hosting a remembrance ceremony at Hwarang Public Garden at 3 PM KST, featuring memorial videos and musical performances.
• Seoul: The April 16th Promise National Coalition is holding a civic remembrance ceremony at the Sewol Memorial Space in front of the Seoul Metropolitan Council at 4:16 PM KST, including moments of silence, flower offerings, and tribute performances.
• Jindo County, South Jeolla Province (팽목항 – Paengmok Port): A remembrance ceremony will be held at the Sewol Memorial Hall starting at 1 PM KST.

The Sewol ferry disaster occurred on April 16, 2014, claiming the lives of 304 people, most of whom were high school students on a school trip. The tragedy led to widespread grief and a national conversation about safety regulations and disaster response.
