A 30-year-old man, identified as Mr. A, has been arrested and detained for allegedly murdering his ex-wife, Ms. B (also in her 30s), and setting fire to the convenience store where she worked in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea.
According to the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency, the incident occurred on July 1st at approximately 1:13 AM KST. Mr. A allegedly visited the convenience store in Jonam-dong, Siheung, and fatally stabbed Ms. B before setting the store ablaze.
Firefighters extinguished the fire within about six minutes after receiving the report. Ms. B was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.
Police investigations, including CCTV footage analysis, led to Mr. A’s arrest around 2:13 AM KST in a vehicle parked near the convenience store, about an hour after the crime. He was found with self-inflicted injuries and received medical treatment.
Mr. A reportedly told police that his work life had become difficult because his ex-wife had reported him. Ms. B had previously reported Mr. A for ํ๋ฐ (hyeopbak), which translates to ‘intimidation’ or ‘menace’ in English. She had also been provided with a ์ค๋งํธ์์น (seumateu wochi), a ‘smartwatch’ provided by the police for emergency situations.
Mr. A has been formally arrested on charges of murder and arson. The investigation is ongoing. ๐จ
